How verification works
HINBook separates sourced facts, partially supported claims, and open questions so readers can judge every boat record.
Verified
Supported by a primary record, credible period source, clear photographic evidence, or independently corroborated documentation.
Partially verified
Some elements are supported, but dates, identities, or configuration details remain incomplete or disputed.
Unverified
A useful lead or community claim that has not yet met the evidence threshold. It is labeled, never presented as settled fact.
Profile control
The member who creates an unclaimed boat profile may edit its details after automated safety checks. An approved ownership claim transfers that control to the verified owner; the original creator may still contribute timeline entries and request removal of specific entries.
Ownership moderation
Creating a boat profile does not prove ownership. Every ownership claim requires a moderator decision, even when an automated document check finds a matching HIN and account name.
